All of the Japanese were relocated to Internment camps. An Internment camp is a prision camp where the prisoners do work. The first camp, Poston, opened in 1942. The Japanese were allowed 48 hours to evacuate and they were only allowed to take a few possessions.
Each camp was guarded by several military guards and surrounded by barbed wire. In the camps, arguments would often brake out between the Japanese because thier origin. Some Japanese Americans who took loyalty tests were allowed to move out of the camps and go live along the coast, but not many.
Living Conditions
The living conditions in these interment camps where very difficult for the Japanese because they were very different from what they were used to. At the camps, entire families would live in small, one cell rooms together. Meals were distibuted three times a day, but the portions were very small and usually there wasn't much variety. Lots of people died due to stress and lack of medical care.
QUOTE BY MINE OKUBO:
"“The camps represented a prison. No freedom, no privacy, no ‘America’”
This quote is saying that the Japanese have no freedom, rights or privacy like America says they have.
